We all know that person that needs to control everything. They control all the team decisions made at work. They control what restaurant the group eats at for lunch. They control the radio station playing in the car. They control what Netflix movie the family watches at night.

We affectionately call them a “control freak”. And as we read that description and think of that person, perhaps we find ourselves staring squarely in the mirror.

THE STRATEGY OF HOPE

I often hear people start a sentence with those two words. They hope things work out. They hope to hit certain sales targets. They hope to get something done. They hope they reach specific life goals.

Is anyone else tired of the choose hard, keep grinding, and 10X message that surrounds us?… If you aren’t tired of the message then I’m certain you are exhausted by trying to live up to it and into it.

It seems that today there is always something or someone to compare ourselves to. We are constantly competing. We turn everything into a competition or a game of comparison. Some of us are masters at this.

Last week as my family headed up to the mountain for some skiing, the familiar “Are we there yet’s” began to filter in from the back seat.  To be honest, it had been so long since I had heard them, I didn’t mind it one bit.  But it got me thinking, why do the “are we there yet’s” show up on the way to the mountain, but never show up again on the way back home?

When we see something daily, hear something daily, or read something daily, it no longer shocks or surprises. We almost just accept that the world looks different now.

The Three Prong Plug

When you pull out a plug from the outlet in the wall, ultimately what you are doing is disconnecting it from the “hot” wire where there is a constant current running. It is more than just turning off the switch.  


TWO WORDS.

I am. This week someone told me that those were the two most powerful words in the English language. They were wrong.  They are the two most powerful words in every language.

THE TURNING OF A PAGE

And so we turn the page. Perhaps one chapter has just ended and a new one has begun. Never before have I seen so many so ready for a new year. So ready to turn the page, start a new chapter, or perhaps close one book and start a new one.

PRESS THE GAS. PRESS THE BRAKE.

Slamming either of those pedals on your vehicle will not serve you well. The speeding up and screeching to a halt is uncomfortable for the driver and passenger, and it isn’t healthy for the vehicle either.  

NO FALSE EMERGENCIES

What do we allow to be emergencies in our life? Perhaps more important, what do we individually define as an emergency? The true definition of the word emergency is a “serious, unexpected, and dangerous situation requiring immediate action”.

A STORM IS BUILDING

As terrible as a tropical storm is in nature, we want our business to be as powerful as a category 5.
